OMNIAMERICA ACQUIRES 30 MEDIA TOWERS IN FLORIDA

OmniAmerica Inc., a venture involving Hicks, Muse, Tate & Furst Inc., acquired 30 wireless-communications towers in Florida yesterday for $20 million. The company, based in West Palm Beach, bought 3 towers in Palm Beach County and 2 towers in Fort Pierce from the Ardman Broadcasting Corporation and 25 towers serving the Tampa-St. Petersburg area and western Florida from HSW Associates Inc. OmniAmerica was formed in September by Hicks, Muse, the Dallas-based leveraged buyout firm; Carl Hirsch, OmniAmerica's chief executive, and Anthony Ocepek, its senior vice president and chief operating officer. OmniAmerica buys media towers for the radio and television broadcasting and wireless communications markets.

WESTMIN RESOURCES FAILS TO GET BIGGER TAKEOVER BIDS

Westmin Resources Ltd., a Canadian mining company, said yesterday that it had not been able to attract takeover offers topping Boliden Ltd.'s hostile bid of $809 million (Canadian), or $562 million (United States), in stock and debt, and its financial adviser warned that its shares would probably fall if it was not bought. Westmin has searched for a rival bidder since last year when Boliden, based in Toronto, offered to pay $5.40 (Canadian) a share and assume $228 million in debt. Yesterday, Westmin said its board would not make a recommendation on the offer, which expires Wednesday. Its shares closed at $5.30. Westmin, a target because of its low-cost Lomas Bayas copper deposit, said Boliden's bid did not fairly value the company.

FIRST DATA BUYS A UNIT FROM, AND SELLS ONE TO, CERIDIAN

The First Data Corporation said yesterday that it had acquired the gambling division of the Ceridian Corporation and that Ceridian had bought First Data's NTS transportation-services unit. Terms were not disclosed. Ceridian's gambling services unit provides credit card, debit card and money transfer help for 800 casinos and their customers. It will be integrated with Telecheck Services Inc., a check-acceptance company owned by First Data, which is based in Hackensack, N.J. Ceridian, of Minneapolis, will combine First Data's NTS transportation services business with its Comdata unit. NTS provides transaction services related to fund transfers, fuel purchases and permits to the trucking industry.

Asia Troubles Affecting Boeing Orders

The Boeing Company may have to delay deliveries of jetliners to Malaysian Airline System Bhd. and Philippine Airlines Inc., as Asian airlines struggle to pay for orders made before the region's financial crisis. Executives of Boeing, the world's biggest aircraft maker, will probably meet this week with Malaysian Airline executives, a Boeing spokesman, Mark Hooper, said. Malaysian Airline is seeking to change a schedule that would have it take delivery of 19 aircraft by 2001, the state news agency reported, citing an interview with the airline's chairman.

Nebraska Names Field for Osborne

The University of Nebraska has named Memorial Stadium's playing field Tom Osborne Field in honor of their retiring football coach, the school said. The university's eight-member board of regents unanimously approved the proposal, which will not change the stadium's name.
