The proceeds from the previously announced sale of Looart and its operating subsidiary, Current Inc., totaled about $180 million, or about $150 million after taxes, Primerica said.

LEAD: The New York investor group Plum Associates, which appeared to have lost a takeover bid for the Holly Sugar Corporation to the Imperial Sugar Company, re-emerged as a suitor. In its third proposal in two weeks, Plum Associates, a group headed by Peter R. Harvey of Illinois, is now offering to acquire 60 percent of the company's stock at $92.50 a share, or $61.5 million, instead of the previous cash price of $85 a share, or $56.5 million.
