Ester Ledecká (Czech pronunciation: [ˈɛstɛr ˈlɛdɛtskaː], born 23 March 1995) is a Czech snowboarder and alpine skier. At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, Ledecká won gold medals in the super-G in alpine skiing and in the parallel giant slalom in snowboarding, becoming the first person to not only compete in the Winter Olympics using two different types of equipment (skis and snowboard) but to go further and win two gold medals and do so at the same Winter Olympics. She was the second woman to win an Olympic gold in two separate disciplines but the first to do so at the same Winter Olympics. She was the first Czech to win the parallel giant slalom in snowboarding at the FIS Snowboard World Cup.

Eurocopter yesterday won a $235 million contract to sell seven Panther helicopters to the United Arab Emirates. Eurocopter, jointly owned by Aerospatiale of France and Daimler-Benz Aerospace of Germany, beat offers from Sikorsky, a division of the United Technologies Corporation, and Westland of Britain. The deal was announced by the United Arab Emirates at the end of a five-day weaponry exhibition in Abu Dhabi that was attended by about 600 arms manufacturers. No reason was given for choosing Eurocopter, but military experts said the company had cut its price at the last minute.

The shares of the Roberts Pharmaceutical Corporation tumbled 23 percent yesterday, after the company said its first-quarter earnings would be below estimates. The company, based in Eatontown, N.J., said its results would fall short of its fourth-quarter earnings of $5.91 million, or 32 cents a share, and revenue of $32.4 million. In the first quarter of last year, Roberts had net income of $4.2 million, or 23 cents a share. Shares of Roberts fell $8, to $26.75, in Nasdaq trading. Roberts, which is 28 percent-owned by Yamanouchi Pharmaceutical of Japan, buys and develops drugs in late stages of development or medicines already on the market.

The Eastman Kodak Company is ready to announce alliances with the AT&T Corporation, the Sprint Corporation and others to transmit photo images across telephone lines, according to a person close to the negotiations. Kodak is also working to strengthen alliances with Apple Computer Inc. and Sun Microsystems Inc. to bolster its digital imaging business. One alliance, which is expected to be announced next week, would allow consumers to send digital photo negatives directly to the photo lab over their personal computers, receive images back from the lab, choose the ones they want printed and have them delivered -- all without leaving home.

W. R. Grace & Company said yesterday that J. P. Bolduc, 55, who abruptly resigned as chief executive on March 2, had left the company's board. Grace, the specialty chemical and medical company based in Boca Raton, Fla., did not give a reason for Mr. Bolduc's resignation as a director, which severed his last tie to the company. Neither Mr. Bolduc nor his lawyer could immediately be reached for comment. His resignation as chief executive followed a conflict with the chairman, J. Peter Grace Jr., about whether the company should disclose more than $2 million in questionable payments to Mr. Grace and his son, Peter Grace 3d.

The shares of Bollinger Industries fell 42 percent yesterday after the company, a fitness-products supplier, said its fourth-quarter earnings would be below analysts' expectations. The company said Bollinger expected profit from operations in the quarter ending March 31 to be 5 cents to 7 cents a share, far below the 28 cents a share forecast by Wall Street. In Nasdaq trading yesterday, Bollinger shares closed down $5.563 at $7.50. In the comparable period last year, Bollinger earned 19 cents a share from operations. Bollinger attributed the fourth-quarter drop primarily to losses at its NBF Inc. subsidiary, which makes trampolines, and its health care division, which supplies sports medicines and safety products.

The Ford Motor Company is offering a lease in some markets that allows customers to drive a 1995 Ford Taurus or Mercury Sable for one year before switching to the new 1996 models due this fall. The 36-month program is being offered to customers who have leases on their current cars expiring with the next several months and may shop elsewhere because the Taurus and Sable cars that have been redesigned for 1996 will not be immediately available, a company spokeswoman, Joy Wolfe, said. The offer, good until June 3, will be made in New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Cincinnati, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Atlanta, San Francisco and Los Angeles.
